There is a new book on FreeSWITCH 1.0.6 that is to be published in July 2010 by Packt Publishing. I’m looking forward to reading it.

I broke my installation big time installing FusionPBX over the top. I knew the existing XML would be replaced by FusionPBX but I still managed to get into a mess with it. Serve me right for tinkering with a PBX after midnight.
The following morning, using my configuration notes from the first installation, and following the book method word for word, I started again with a freshly compiled FreeSWITCH build. Taking things nice and slow I ended up with a working PBX that can dial out and receive via my PlusNet broadband phone account. However, I did notice that the 9198 Tetris, 9196 Echo test and 9664 Music on Hold, didn’t work.
I had some success today. I managed to write a working gateway XML. At least I think it will work. The ‘sofia status’ command shows that it is registered. I just need to set up the dialplan now to try it.
I have been steadily making my way through the book and building a FreeSwitch system at the same time. I’m currently stuck at Chapter 4, not because the book is hard going, I just can’t find any information on the internet or in the book that can help me set up my gateway to use an outbound proxy. If there is a future update to the book planned, I would like to see more worked examples for gateway configurations in a variety of scenarios.
Fortunately, I have no problem using X-Lite 4 softphone to make and receive calls via my provider’s proxy. I just can’t seem to craft the required XML for the gateway configuration and replicate how X-Lite 4 is managing to achieve success. I found a lot of example SIP Provider configurations in the wiki, but none specifically for PlusNet. I have tried various XML parameters for outbound-proxy, NAT, STUN and external IP determination but my lack of experience with FreeSwitch and SOFIA is showing.
I bought a copy of the book and ebook this evening. I will start reading it tomorrow.
Vince,
Thanks for posting. I am co-authoring the book you referenced. We are finalizing a few things. I’m doing everything I can to meet the July time frame. Keep watching the Web for updates.
Thanks!
